About Your Candidate:
Patty grew up on a small farm in Minnesota. The 9th of 11 children, she learned at an early age how to fight for what she wanted, yet also work as a teammate, playing sports with her sisters. She learned the value of hard work and responsibility living on the farm. The value of an education was instilled in her by her parents. Both were college graduates, her mother a nurse and her father a music education teacher, and all her siblings have college degrees as well.
Educated as a Registered Nurse at the University of Minnesota School of Nursing, Patty spent 31 years as a cardiac nurse at the University of Minnesota Hospital (now M Health Fairview University of MN Medical Center), five years as a Licensed School Nurse within her children’s Public Schools, and currently works as a sonographer at a Pregnancy Medical Resource Center. She believes education and knowledge are power. Patty has a great concern for the well-being of people of all ages, races, creeds, and different socioeconomic backgrounds. This virtue will help her to find a better way to serve the constituents of SD36B.
Married for 35 years, Patty and her husband have three children whose families are growing themselves. Stability and practicality are part of her life. Minnesota used to be a state with high education standards and low crime rates, where people were happy to live. Now, Minnesota children have fallen behind in every measurable category in our K-12 Public Schools. Crime is skyrocketing in the Twin Cities area, mostly committed by our youth! The high cost of living is forcing people to choose between rent, groceries, gas, and medications. Our burdensome taxes are some of the highest in the country, with the Democrats failing again to offer our seniors full social security tax relief. All these issues and more are causing people to leave Minnesota for states that treat their residents better. Patty will lead in a better way.
EDUCATION
– Today, throughout Minnesota, test scores and reading proficiency are down in K-12 public schools. White Bear Lake data from MDE: White Bear Lake Schools Report Card
– The legislature added 65 unfunded mandates to schools in 2023.
– 300 million dollars in cuts to schools have occurred with the new mandates.
– Taxpayers pay $13,000 per pupil and have little to show in return on their investment.
– Teacher salaries are being cut, but the bureaucrats in board rooms are getting their money.
– A child’s zip code should not determine their educational outcome.
* MN was once the standard for academic success in the United States. We can return to our high standards again and focus on academics.
AFFORDABILITY
– Pain at the gas pumps. Pain at the grocery store. Pain when viewing health insurance bills. Pain when your property tax bill arrives. As a nurse, Patty focused on relieving pain. She’ll look for better ways to help lower costs of living and allow you to keep more of your hard-earned money.
– The Democratic Trifecta took a 17 BILLION surplus (which means they took 17 billion more of your dollars than the budget called for) and gave it away, or created new government entities that will need more money every year to operate.
– The Minnesota government grew 40% and added 10.5 billion dollars in new taxes in 2023 to grow those new entities.
– There is a California-like bill that will add .50 cents to every gallon of gas, on top of the current gas tax, which is planned to be used, they say, to promote the laundry list of ‘green’ projects, whether they are good for the environment or Minnesotans, no one can say.
* A good hard look at how big Minnesota’s government has grown and finding ways to trim the fat is what a nurse is good at.
SAFETY
– Crime is up. The legislature is pushing for Sanctuary Cities where non-citizens, many not vetted, are offered free healthcare, free college, and free driver’s licenses. This is wrong, when many of our own citizens are struggling financially.
– The Second Amendment allows law abiding citizens to protect themselves. Democrats are making laws that will affect the ability of citizens to protect themselves yet refuse to punish those that break the law by buying guns illegally.
– Law Enforcement Officers need our support, financially and emotionally. Fear of doing their jobs, being handcuffed to protect the innocent, these restrictions must be eliminated.
– Our schools are turning into a war zone. With recent changes in disciplinary policies with the new DEI standards, our students have lost the concept of civil obedience and non-physical conflict resolution. These policies must be changed. All students must be subject to the same consequences for their behavior.
* Patty supports our Law Enforcement officers and will work to make sure they are safe on the job. Those who commit crimes must be held accountable for their actions, otherwise they will continue down the wrong path. Schools must change their policies and work to educate our youth on conflict resolutions. They must learn that there are consequences for their actions.
